I am back from Taiwan!
During my trip, I have been trying to search for new business and products to be brought back to Singapore. However, for fashion & beauty, I think most of you can buy cheap Taiwanese clothes or beauty products at Q10 (Gmarket).
What really attracts me, which is lacking on our sunny island, was the service they provide. Anyone who has been to Taiwan will definitely experience these:
"来试试看哦。不好吃不用钱。"
Come and try. You don't have to pay if it doesn't taste good.
"来看看哦。不买没关系。"
Come and take a look. It's ok if you don't buy.
"小姐对不起让你久等了"
Miss, sorry to keep you waiting.
(But I only waited for a few seconds)
And the way they say it is soooooo genuine and nice. :)
But to think of it, will we really won't pay if the food is not nice? And to the shop owners, is it really ok if we don't buy? We all know the answers will be no but why are they still saying it?
Perhaps, the most powerful method to increase sales (retail) is to let the customers 'try with no obligations'. And when we mean no obligations, we mean smiling widely and ask the customer to come back again even though they have tried tons of clothes and didn't buy a single thing.
So back to the question, Can customer service be 'copied'? Is it advisable to adopt such practices in Singapore? My answer is, why not?
I know what you guys are thinking. You are afraid of meeting cheapskate customers who only want to try for fun and didn't want to pay. But hey, these are the minorities. And you mean there is no cheapskate people in Taiwan?
If you apply the 80/20 rule, why give up the 80% potential customers because of the 20% nasty ones?
