In these recent months, I have encountered people that makes me worry and wonder. Here are the scenarios:
1) From my best friend:
"I am very frustrated at work. Work sucks. Why money always not enough?"
2) From a random job seeker at JobsCentral fair:
Me: Hi, are you looking for a job?
He: Yes...
Me: What type of job you are looking at?
He: I don't know.
3) From an accquittance:
Me: What are your goals/dreams?
He: I don't have any.
Me: Is there something you want to achieve?
He: Nope.
Me: (puzzled) or at least a country you want to visit for holiday and something you want to buy and you are saving for it?
He: Haha nothing.
I have felt all of these before. Indeed, it was frustrating, sad, depressed and lost. I have been a workaholic these years. For those who knows me will know that I am...erm... they called it 'siao ON', super on the ball kind. But in the end what do I get? Because my boss thought that I have handled well and pass me more work to do. Colleagues hate me. I got stressed up. Became negative. And you know what? I am still getting the same paycheck every month!
And when you get your pay, here comes the endless bills. This goes on for every month and every year. It seems like I can't escape this penniless cycle. I must admin that every month I am a 月光族 (being broke every month). I wonder, when can I see daylight...?
It's the same for people who doesn't know what to look for in a job. Because you have been going through this unbreakable cycle and you thought there was a problem in the job you do.
And you know what happens next when you are broke? You will lost or stop all your goals and dreams. That's when you will feel life has no purpose and you start to become negative.
Here is a typical working Singaporeans' cycle:
Tips by me:
1) Find something you like to do in Singapore. Be it going for KTV, cafe-hopping, check out haunted houses...whatever haha. It is always cheaper to stay here than to get discounted airticket and hotel stay. No matter how discounted they are, it will cost at least $300.
2) Have a hobby and a constant thing for you to do. Like learning a language or attending yoga or cooking lessons.
3) YOLO. If you really don't like the job, then quit. Find a better job.
4) Always set a 'Me' time. Dealing with stress or in need of relaxation might not mean you need to go spent on a vacation. You can be sitting in a bubble bath and just think of nothing. Clear your mind and thoughts.
5) Always be positive. It is normal to feel depressed at times but you have to pull yourself up and get back on track. Trust me, no matter how good is your family, friends or love partners at supporting you, you still have to do this by yourself.
Always believe that you are much stronger than you think you are.
Good luck!
